Hot Mikado

Submitted by Simon on Monday, 1 October 2001No Comment

hmfrontcoverMost of you know ‘The Plot’ of ‘The Mikado’ don’t you? No? Surely you must do! I will tell you a story: well, briefly anyway. Here goes:
There was this Japanese person, a trumpet player, name of Nanki-Poo, who made his way to a town called Titipu, searching for a girl, Yum-Yum by name. Apparently she is already spoken for by a guy called Ko-Ko, whom she does not love (who would with a name like that?). Nanki-Poo, unfortunately, is being chased by Katisha (a dragon by all accounts), who will settle for any man where possible really; Nanki-Poo finding all this too much, considers death by hanging, but!… has second thoughts, possibly beheading would be better.

(Lose your head for a woman? Well it really is a comedy.)

Anyway, Nanki-Poo, the hero, will marry Yum-Yum for a month – a wedding scene as well, aah! – But widows of the beheaded men are buried alive: confusion all round, what are they to do? Fake it? Who marries whom? Is there a compromise? And all before the powerful Mikado arrives seeking his son and heir. I wonder who that may be?
Need I say more? Watch the show to find out!…
