Hello Dolly

Submitted by Simon on Monday, 1 April 2002No Comment

hdfrontcoverThe journey to her destination – marriage to Horace Vandergelder – takes us with the company through the colourful streets of New York in the ‘Gay Nineties’, to Yonkers Railroad Station; to Mrs. Malloy’s Hat Shop; to the Harmonia Gardens; to a Courtroom; and finally to Vandergelder’s feedstore where the journey began. En route Dolly manages not only to settle her own future with Vandergelder, but also to unite Ermengarde his niece (whos marriage he had opposed) to her beloved Ambrose Kemper. She arranges promotion for Cornelius and Barnaby, his employees, who meet and fall in love with Mrs. Malloy and Minnie Fay respectively. They, like the waiters and townspeople of the story, are better off for knowing Dolly.
